What is the NCAA division that your college basketball teams belong? Warner Southern College is a NCAA Division II school and belongs in the Florida Sun Conference. Do you have approximately your general statistics during your college years? The following are my personal statistic during my college career at Warner Southern College.
Do you know our Venezuela professional league? Yes, as you know from the Player Profile, I played on the Venezuela Junior National Team and I also practiced with the Marinos Team. I would like to add that many players at the Summer Pro League participated in the Venezuelan league. Did you play in our professional league before? What team?I never played in the league, as soon as I came back from the 1995 World Championship in Greece; I was offered a scholarship at Chipola Junior College in Marianna, Florida, where I played under the direction of Coach Monte Towel. Now coaching Hector Romero in New Orleans. Have you played in another league around the world different to college basketball?Well I played with the Venezuelan Junior National Team and attended to many international tournaments such as: The Suramericano in Bolivia, the Paramericano in Argentina and the World Championship in Athens, Greece. Some of my former teammates were Diego Guevara, Edgar Arteaga, and Roque Osorio etc. What about your experience in Venezuela Junior National Team?On the National team, I had the opportunity to see a world – view of the game of basketball. It helped me to become more dedicated to the sport as well as the hunger to be a better player.
During the SPL, I had the opportunity to blend with other players into a more professional level of competition of the sport of basketball. Before the league started, there was a three-day tryout to select the players that will be on the league. Out of 350 players only approximately 35 were chosen. During those three days I had a point AVG of 9.3 PG and I lead my team in rebounds with AVG of 12.5 PG. Once the players were chosen, it was time to get prepared mentally and physically to a different level of competition. The Summer League lasted three weeks and I was member of the Slam Team, where I had a decent performance of approximately 20 Min. PG, 5.3 PPG, and 5.7 RPG. During the league I had the opportunity to speak to Oscar Torres after one of his games, at first he looked surprise to see me there but then we started to catch up things. I felt very proud for both of us to be playing in such recognized league. While in the League, I was offered to play in the Philippines by one of the agents of the League for good amount of money. He recently traveled to the Philippines to meet with the teams and handle-in our highlights tapes and Player’s Profiles. In addition, I would like to add that I’m keeping my options open and see where can I get a better deal closer to home, that is the reason my agent and I are contacting Marinos and Guaros de Lara to see which team has my right or if I’m a free player and get to chose what team I want to play for. What are your plans for the National Team?Last week I spoke to Nestor Salazar and He was telling me about what he wanted to do with the National Team and asked me if I wanted to part of it, I told him that I was planning to go back to Venezuela and play the league and I was also welling to be part of the National Team in the near future. So, yes I was invited to be part of the National Team.
Right now I’m working as a temporary assistant coach for the WSC basketball team. This give to me the opportunity to be involve in the game in a different way by helping other players develop their skill. I can also add that, I have time to keep my self in shape for the next job overseas could be the Philippines or in South America, which ever come first. Do you know Marinos team? Tell me your comments about it? Marinos give me the opportunity to become a better basketball player in my early years as a player. I think they are one of the best teams in the league. They traded me to Bravos as soon as they find out that I was going to the U.S on a Basketball Scholarship. Now both teams are in a battle to see who really has my rights.
As you know I was born in Belmont, Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. On the age of five my parents decided to move to Anaco and opened their own business. Last year I became an American Permanent Resident; this would give me the option to live in the U.S during the off-season. My Father is originally from Trinidad and Tobago and my Mother is originally from Maturin Edo. Monagas, Venezuela. As you can see it was not hard for us to move from one place to another because I had relative in Venezuela also. I did play with the Venezuela Junior National Team and I will do it again if I have the opportunity to represent Venezuela in international competitions. I’m a Venezuelan Player, but I will never forget where my roots are. What do you think about or Web-Sited Venezuela Baloncesto?I was pleased to hear and see that the Basketball media is making so much progress in our country. Thanks to people like you who are helping to keep track of the success our native players in different Countries. This gives us Players motivation to do our best in or off the basketball court. Thank you for your support. What is your message to the fans in Venezuela?I want to send the fans my regard and a word of support on this difficult situation that our County is going through.
